Eugene Von Guerard

Go and see Von Guerard's exhibition at the Fed square NGV. This canvas is the size of a wall, and excruciatingly, painstakingly detailed. This particular painting really blew me away and all the more so in real life. Down to the translucent low lying wisps of mist and cloud, the beautiful afternoon light (which feature in most of his paintings) to the small and seemingly insignificant shrubbery. This painting is called Milford Sound, it is an alpine area in NZ and looks identical. Please, I beg of you! Even if you're not interested in galleries or exhibitions, go. His work, made are the more sentimental from my year away in the High country, Guerard spent 30 years in Australia painting its sweeping landscapes and mountainous high country.
